They're good drives and if they go on sale for the same price as other drives or close to it, then they are decent buys. being a drive that runs OS or programs) because even in the times of the older 1TB ones I was years into using SSDs.and I got those two 1TB drives for free. At no time have I ever used these to run a computer though (i.e. Two are old 1TBs no longer in use, the other four are 5TBs. That said I actually have a total of like six WD black drives. It's totally pointless to buy a "premium" HDD because it's among the fastest drive when in the larger picture that performance difference is insanely small it's still painfully slow no matter what. Sure maybe they're slightly slower in some areas and they might not have a long warranty, but they may even be faster in some disciplines and the price is much lower. Making matters worse though is what you pointed out there's other HDDs out there that are pretty similar in speed and significantly cheaper. If we're talking about half-decent to high-end NVMe SSDs.those are perhaps 500-1000x faster where it counts so that should put it in perspective. Actually it's way worse than that given even some of the cheapest/crappiest SSDs are still like 100x faster in terms of real-world performance.
It's like buying a 2005 Corolla XRS and thinking it's great because it's the fastest Corolla of the time.but then you realise it's slower than basic economy cars of today lol. It's among the fastest of 3.5" SATA HDDs but that isn't really saying much.
Also has 5 yr warranty and is "dual processor".
Is the "black" version anything special that I am missing ?īlack is the highest-end and fastest WD HDD.
